(Interview & Tunes will air Saturday, August 3th, 2013, at 9:30 AM on Port City Radio, 93.7 & 106.3FM – 9:30AM!)
The Schoolboys offer soulful renditions of a wide variety of rock and roll classics. Revisiting songs made famous by artists as diverse as Chuck Berry, James Taylor, The Eagles, Joe Cocker, Tom Petty, CCR, Otis Redding and more. Their performances emphasize vocal harmonies and fun interplay between the band members and the audience.
Just who are The Schoolboys?
Bill Bolduc – Associate professor in the department of communication studies teaching and researching in media studies and media production. Bill also plays rhythm and lead guitar for the band and sings. He also creates documentaries but has yet to do one on the band.
Bill DiNome – Coordinator for Student Media at UNCW. Bill works closely with our student newspaper, literary magazine, Teal TV and Hawkstream radio to provide sage advice and continuity. With the ‘boys he also provides continuity on bass and provide harmony vocals. He’s also hard to beat at offbeat music trivia.
James Hunt – Professor of marketing with the Cameron School of Business. James recently completed two terms as department chair. He plays drums and sings with the band and is responsible for long drum finales on songs we’re not sure how to end.
Rick Olsen – Professor in communication studies and currently department chair. Rick teaches the required research methods course, aka “boot camp.” For the band he’s happiest behind the keyboard and also sings and plays harmonica. He has won the “most gear in the band” contest for 12 straight years.
Frank Trimble – Professor in communication studies teaching performance and capstone courses among many others. Frank plays rhythm guitar, percussion and offers soaring vocals for the band. Frank is the only one in the band apparently not getting older. Eventually, we’re hoping he’ll carry in all our gear.
